Travel agents are an important for any mode of communications. Unlike any other mode, airways also have their own travel agents who help them to sell their tickets. Though airways prefer the travelers to book their tickets directly from their website, but that is always not possible and many travelers do need assistance for the same and so inspite of their likes or dislikes, the airways do need travel agents. United Airline does share a hate and love relationship with their travel agents, especially those with large agencies and consortiums, who help them to sell over half of the flight tickets in United States and also promote their flights.

Travelers do prefer travel agents either online or brick-and-mortar agents for their airline tickets as because they offer varied choices and deals, which means airlines should offer competitive fares and cut into airline profit margins. Travel agents are free labor when customers have problems with their flights including change in schedule or delay in departure. Travel agents also has the right to re-book the tickets for their customers on to the other flights faster even than the airline often can do the same itself and even often they are much better at the airport where the customer service line cross around the terminal. In such situation, advent of so-called automatic re-booking kiosks and online booking sites for some reservations are too complicated and complex for the customers to handle. There are few airports where it is not readily apparent fixes.

United Airlines have certain rules, which include

Re-booking Allowance to the Travel Agents, wherein they can book the tickets into a higher coach fare for their customers. This gives the agents the right and also the ability to shift passengers into a higher fare category if necessary when rebooking.

Allowance to change airports for the passengers within a 100-mile radius in a situation when the smaller airport does not work and also when a area has multiple airports.

Travel agents can also move the tickets within a 7-day range of the original flight

Changes of other airline schedule is also possible, wherein the agents will be able to change a United flight if another airline on the same ticket changes ITS schedule, which can cause nightmares with connections.
